Prayer and Fasting for GAFCON - Day 19

Holy Communion Propers for The Third Sunday after Trinity
(1928 Book of Common Prayer, USA)

The Collect
O LORD, we beseech thee mercifully to hear us; and grant that we, to whom thou hast given an hearty desire to pray, may, by thy mighty aid, be defended and comforted in all dangers and adversities; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle
5 And all of you, serve each other in humility, for
“God opposes the proud but favors the humble.”
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. 7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your Christian brothers and sisters all over the world are going through the same kind of suffering you are.
10 In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 11 All power to him forever! Amen.
Peter’s Final Greetings 12 I have written and sent this short letter to you with the help of Silas, whom I commend to you as a faithful brother. My purpose in writing is to encourage you and assure you that what you are experiencing is truly part of God’s grace for you. Stand firm in this grace.
13 Your sister church here in Babylon sends you greetings, and so does my son Mark. 14 Greet each other with Christian love.
Peace be with all of you who are in Christ.
I Peter 5, NLT

A GAFCON Value
"Uniti means united which is the horizontal relationship between all believers found in the body of Christ."

Prayer
Mighty God, give your GAFCON pilgrims "uniti" - make them brothers and sisters in humble service to one another, in patient suffering as they resist the devil, in encouragement, in love and finally in sharing the eternal glory of your Son Jesus Christ, in whose Holy Name we pray. Amen.

The Gospel
1 Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. 2 This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them!
3 So Jesus told them this story: 4 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others in the wilderness and go to search for the one that is lost until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he will joyfully carry it home on his shoulders. 6 When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!
8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
Luke 15, NLT

A GAFCON Pilgrim's Perspective
It is not long now before I leave for the Jerusalem Conference. I am immensely grateful for the support and prayers of so many of you. I'm looking forward to meeting with the leaders representing 35 million Anglicans across 27 different countries and it is my hope that God will give us wisdom during our time together. As we look to the future of this great communion of churches, I am praying that we will maintain the highest level of unity possible. I have just written to the Archbishop of Canterbury to assure him of my prayers for him and for the success of the Lambeth Conference. We have different views on how best to see the future of the Anglican Communion at this time. But we are at one in seeking its good health and doing what can be done to make sure that the turmoil created by those who have set aside fundamental Christian teaching does not destroy it. On the contrary, our aim should be to see it united as never before in the service of Christ in this world. I am praying that both the Lambeth Conference and the Jerusalem Conference will help achieve that goal. Will you join me in your intercessions?
Statement from Archbishop Peter Jensen (Sydney, Australia)
6/6/08

Prayer
Amen! God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, unite your church around the world in service to the Gospel. Fill the GAFCON pilgrims with your love for lost people, and give them the gifts they need to unite Anglican Christians in Christ's true work. Send the GAFCON pilgrims to bring many sinners to repentance, and to ignite constant joy in the presence of your angels. We pray in the Name of Jesus, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
