For faithful Canadian Anglicans under duress

Please pray for for those standing up for our faith.

The Solemn Declaration, 1893 (Anglican Church of Canada)
And we are determined by the help of God to hold and maintain the Doctrine, Sacraments, and Discipline of Christ as the Lord hath commanded in his Holy Word...

There are reports tonight that the Reverend Dr. J.I. Packer and The Rev. David Short are under pressure from a revisionist bishop and facing church discipline.

From The Litany
By thine Agony and Bloody Sweat; by thy Cross and Passion; by thy precious Death and Burial; by thy glorious Resurrection and Ascension, and by the Coming of the Holy Ghost,
Good Lord, deliver us.

Week of III Lent

Let us continue in prayer for...
Anglican Coalition in Canada (ACiC)
The Rt. Rev. Alexander Greene (Bishop)
The Rev. Barclay Mayo (Network Leader)

Thanksgiving for Mission
WE thank thee, most merciful Father, that it hath pleased thee to build thy Church in many lands. We praise thee for the light of the Gospel, the labours of thy servants, and the ministrations of thy Church. We also bless thy holy Name for those who have lived, and suffered, and died for thy sake; beseeching thee to give us grace so to follow their good examples, that with them we may at last attain thy heavenly promises; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Book of Common Prayer (1962, Canada)

Prayer from John 4:5-42
Father, your Son Jesus was weary from his journey, yet he reached out to reveal his saving presence to the Samaritan woman at the well. Though your Anglican witnesses in Canada are wearied by struggles and attacks, pour the Holy Spirit into their hearts and grant them renewal and revival in Christ.

And as the woman ran from the well and the saving presence of Christ spread to her neighbors, so send your Anglican witnesses to bring Christ to many across Canada.

We pray in Jesus' Name. Amen.

From the Scriptures
Behold, how good and joyful a thing it is, for brethren to dwell together in unity!
It is like the precious oil upon the head, that ran down unto the beard, even unto Aaron's beard, and went down to the skirts of his clothing.
Like as the dew of Hermon, which fell upon the hill of Sion.
For there the LORD promised his blessing, and life for evermore.

Psalm 133 (Coverdale)

A Guiding Prayer
Almighty God, who by thy Son Jesus Christ didst give commandment to the Apostles that they should go into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature: Grant to us whom thou hast called into thy Church, a ready will to obey thy Word; and fill us with a hearty desire to make thy way known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Book of Common Prayer (1962, Canada)

A Heritage Reflection
"Christ was sent, as the Scripture many times tells us, not to preach his own will, but his Father's; 'As My Father said unto Me, so I speak.' Nor were the Apostles sent to preach what they would themselves, but whatsoever Christ had commanded them; that they, which preach as voluntary as the organ plays, or the sudden motions of a spirit, as their fancy leads them that call it speaking by the Spirit when never a wise word is spoken, and they which preach us up new doctrines, or a new faith, which was never heard on since the world began afore, may go seek some other commission to make good what they do, for from Christ here have they none."

Special Prayer Alert: The Family of Bishop Iker

FROM BISHOP IKER (Diocese of Forth Worth)

Chrissy, our oldest daughter (37), suffered a very serious heart attack on Friday afternoon, Feb. 15. She has severely damaged her heart again, having already had a very similar heart attack in 1997. She has only 25% of her heart functioning.

I am glad to tell you that Chrissy is making slow but steady progress and that after four days in ICU, she was moved last night (Tuesday) to a regular room. She now begins a regimen of medications for her heart and blood pressure problems.

Your ongoing prayers will mean a great deal to all of us.

+JLI

From the Scriptures
"The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven."
James 5:15 (NRSV)

A Guiding Prayer
O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, our only help in time of need; We humbly beseech thee to behold, visit, and relieve thy sick servant Chrissy for whom our prayers are desired. Look upon her with the eyes of thy mercy; comfort her with a sense of thy goodness; preserve her from the temptations of the enemy; and give her patience under her affliction. In thy good time, restore her to health, and enable her to lead the residue of her life in thy fear, and to thy glory; and grant that finally she may dwell with thee in life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Week of II Lent

Let us continue in prayer for...
American Anglican Council
The Rt. Rev. David Anderson, President & CEO

From the Scriptures
‘Simon, Simon, listen! Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your own faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.’
Luke 22:31-32

Intercession
Father, O Father! Satan, the accusser, is shaking the Anglican Communion with great hatred. He seeks to destroy your children. Hear the prayer of Jesus, our Great High Priest, that our faith not fail. We ask for the gifts of the Holy Spirit for Bishop David and the AAC, that they may strengthen struggling Anglican brothers and sisters. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.

II Lent

Let Us Pray for...
American Anglican Council
The Rt. Rev. David C. Anderson (President and CEO)

Special Prayer Petitions
Bishop Anderson's wife, MaryAnne, just had knee replacement surgery and is recovering. Please pray for a successful recovery and for her care giver, Bishop Anderson. Also, Bishop Anderson is recovering from a bad flu. Pray that he is restored to full health.

"Please pray for the AAC's staff and their families.
We especially ask for prayers for wisdom and discernment as we daily counsel Christians in need of guidance. Our prayer is that the LORD will have His way with us and that we would be clay in the Potter's hands."

From the Scriptures
"I will call to mind the deeds of the LORD;
I will remember your wonders of old.
I will meditate on all your work,
and muse on your mighty deeds.
Your way, O God, is holy.
What god is so great as our God?
You are the God who works wonders;
you have displayed your might among the peoples.
With your strong arm you redeemed your people,
the descendants of Jacob and Joseph."

Psalm 77:11-15 (NRSV)

A Guiding Prayer
O gracious Father, we humbly beseech thee for thy holy Catholic Church; that thou wouldest be pleased to fill it with all truth, in all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is in error, direct it; where in any thing it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, establish it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of him who died and rose again, and ever liveth to make intercession for us, Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord. Amen.

"For the Church," Book of Common Prayer (1928, USA)

A Heritage Reflection
"And all these [ways God leads us] are especial favours; but the chief of all, and that whereof all these are but the train, is the leading us in His heavenly truth, and in the way of His Commandments, to the land of the living. All the rest attend upon this; this is chief, and therefore the leading of principal intendment."

Bishop Lancelot Andrewes (1555-1626)

Announcing the Common Cause Cycle of Prayer

Greetings, all. The communications people from the various Common Cause Partners got together alongside the Leadership Council meeting in Orlando last December, and one of the projects we decided to work together on was a unified Cycle of Prayer for the Partnership. We are releasing this Cycle today. It is 41 weeks long, so we can start next year's cycle with the start of the church year.

Along with the Cycle, we are launching this blog today. We'll run content related to the Cycle of Prayer here as the year unfolds. This is meant to complement other prayer blogs, as our focus will be specifically on the Cycle of Prayer.

Please download the PDF, look it over, and provide any feedback here on this blog. We'll especially be looking to you for specific prayer concerns related to the week's prayer focus as the year unfolds.

Thanks for your prayers!
